How to Sync device with Windows media player

My foray into this field made me realise there is no concentrated space having full information so i decided to do something.

Task: sync the songs on phone with your computer.
Sync means that when your phone is connected to the computer via usb the media files by default will be transferred to your device.

Overtime when the media fles in computer to be copied grow in size and space in your phone becomes less then most favourite songs will be copied first.

Is your device compatible with the windows media player?
First of all make sure if your device supports this process or not.
For this go this web page and find out if your phone model is listed here.

On that page : Select Communication Device->Mobile devices if you want to sync your mobile phone.

Once you are done with the verification proceed below for the further steps.

Requirements before you proceed:
OS: windows xp/vista/7
Software: Windows 11 or more installed
Device: compatible for transfer.
ports enabled.
device drivers available

Settings in phone:
1. Go to settings->connectivity ->USB mode
2. Set it to media player and save.

1. Install windows media player 11 or more.
2. close it once and launch again.
3. Connect your phone to the computer.
4. in the windows media player select Sync ->then select the arrow below it.

your phone's model name should be displayed here.
if your phone is not detected by the windows media player then go to Desktop
1. Right click on "my computer." icon and select Manage.
2. On the left side pane select "Device Manager".
3. on the right hand side pane select "portable device " if this is visible skip step 4 & 5 else go to step 4.
->select your phone and right click on it.
-> update driver.

4. however chances are you wont find any "portable device" and when you connect your phone a pop up comes recognising it as camera.
The pop up gives two tools word doc or image viewer only.
if this is the case then after selecting Device manager search all the option on right pane carefully and look out if your device is listed under any of them. for e.g. see under imaging devices etc.

you can also get the type (i.e. how your computer is recognising your phone) by going to my computer. there your phone must be listed under some heading.

so once you have found out the device right click on it and select "update driver".

now your phone will be properly recognised as mobile device and start showing under portable device.

now it will be viisble on your media player too under "sync"

how to view files on phone through windows media player ?
go windows media player->library-> select device name.

Background information about this phenomena.

This phenomena is possible due to MTP i.e. Media Transfer protocol.
Media Transfer Protocol supports the transfer of music files on digital audio players and media files on portable media players, as well as personal information on personal digital assistants.

Media Transfer Protocol (commonly referred to as MTP) is part of the "Windows Media" framework and thus closely related to Windows Media Player. Windows Vista has built-in support for MTP. Support for Media Transfer Protocol in Windows XP requires the installation of Windows Media Player 10 or higher.[2] Mac and Linux systems have software packages to support it.
